The RiceKairyo Shinko was created in 1963 by Chozo Igarashi of Yamada, Tsuruoka, selected over twelve years from Shinko No.160 seed. It is a grandchild of Kame-no-o and a sibling of Takane-nishiki, the parent of Miyama-nishiki.
